I want to tell a story first for some background on why I am sharing this new product with you!
2019...
Let me take you back to 2019, Harper, our first baby was born and we were finally first-time parents! Like many parents, a new sense of worry and fear takes over as you do everything possible to care for your newest little one, especially at night when everyone is supposed to be sleeping. We had done our research on baby products and purchased all of the newest gizmos and gadgets. One I was especially excited about and knew I couldn't live without was a smart monitor that tracked heart rate and oxygen levels through a special sock. I was so excited because as a worrier and knew I would be up all night wondering if Harper was breathing and healthy. This product did live up to its expectations and provided me with peace of mind except it was difficult to use, especially as first-time parents. I vividly remember one night during our bedtime routine when Harper was 8 weeks old, she started screaming out of nowhere. I checked everything and could not figure out what it was. Then I remembered I had just put on her smart sock a few minutes earlier and must have done it wrong. As soon as I removed it, she stopped screaming. Other nights, we would not put it on just right or Harper would wiggle too much and the placement became off, which set off alarms or alerts that it was not working. When this happened, I truly panicked. More often than not, it was a connection and placement error, but the only way to fix that was to sneak into Harper's room and adjust the sock. And what’s worse than the threat of waking a sleeping baby? In my book– not much!! So long story short, we used the sock every night until Harper outgrew it (wasn't happy when this happened) and most of the time it was fine, but every night while putting it on, I can tell you I had a talking to with that sock and prayed that I put it on right. It was a can't live with you, can't live without you kind of relationship.
2021...
Sooo flash forward to 2021, when I discovered the Cubo Ai smart monitor. I started using the baby monitor and fell in love with all of the features. They’ve thought of everything that parents worry about at night with a new baby– roll over detection, 18-hour playback and recording, super clear picture for day & night mode, 2-way communication, and white noise. I quickly became a super fan of their product, and they were kind enough to share the new Sleep Sensor Pad with me! Again, they have thought of everything that was missing and that had previously caused my woes with our smart sock. Let me share all about the features!
Sleep Sensor Pad Features...
The Cubo Sleep Sensor Pad is placed under your baby's crib mattress ONE time and detects micro motions from your baby(AKA the rise and fall of your baby's lungs). I bet you can guess why I was super excited about this--it only needed to be installed one time and went under the crib mattress so you do not have to place it on your baby each night and there is no room for user error every single night like I experienced with the sock. You can also use it as long as your baby is in the crib, Harper is 2.5 years old for reference!
My favorite feature: there are no blinking lights, base stations, or extra lights watching your baby. It is truly non-intrusive to your baby's sleep which is a major sticking point for me being an expert on sleep and knowing all babies are sensitive to different things in their environment, The Sleep Sensor Pad and Cubo Ai Camera ensure that nothing interferes with the ideal sleep space for your little one.
Let's see how it works...hint hint, it is super simple.
1. Purchase the Cubo Ai Camera + Sleep Sensor Pad or if you already have the Cubo Ai Plus camera, just purchase the Sleep Sensor Pad addition.
2. Wait patiently for your box to arrive :)
3. Open it up! yay! then install 3 AAA batteries, these do not come with the package so be sure to have some on hand.
4. Open up your Cubo Ai monitor app and click "settings" on the bottom right-hand screen. Click on the camera you are pairing the Sleep Sensor Pad to, for example, mine says "Harper".
5. Scroll to the bottom and you will see the "Cubo Ai Sleep Sensor Pad". Turn AI Mode on by clicking on the button.
6. Select your sensitivity. PRO TIP: I had to set mine to "High" sensitivity so the pad recognized Harper's micromotions when she was in the corners of her crib. If you have a baby who sleeps all around the crib, I would suggest setting it to "High" as well!
7. Grab your Sleep Sensor Pad and make sure the light is blue!
8. Lift your mattress up and complete the one-time installation by placing the pad in the middle of your crib on sturdy slats or a flat wood surface. Slowly lower your mattress back down.
9. Follow the prompts on the app to connect the Pad to your camera and voila!
10. You're all set!
Remember the golden safe sleep rules...
So I hope you can see how easy the Sleep Sensor Pad is to use and how it can give you that extra peace of mind that you need at night while your baby is finally sleeping all on their own! I do want to remind you of the basics for infant safe sleep because although products can give us peace of mind, we still need to do our due diligence and ensure we are doing everything as parents to provide a safe sleep environment and do our best to prevent SIDS & accidents.
Your baby should sleep in their bassinet or crib with nothing else until they are at least 1 year old. This means no blankets, stuffed animals, pillows, or crib bumpers. Even the mesh bumpers can be unsafe and although they say breathable, limbs can get stuck and suffocation can be a risk. It’s simply not worth the risk of having anything in your baby’s crib other than your baby!
Since the 1990’s “Back to Sleep” campaign began, SIDS has decreased drastically. We know that the back is truly the best place for your baby to sleep until they can roll both ways and get onto their tummy by themselves. It can be a bit nerve wracking when your baby does start to roll over by themselves. With the Cubo Ai monitor, you are alerted when your baby rolls onto their tummy, which can help to reassure that even if you are not physically watching the monitor 24/7, their movement is still being ‘watched,’ and you can check in on them when they sleep on their belly without having to sneak in the room. It works almost too well, as I tested it with my 2 year old who rolls back and forth ALL NIGHT LONG. I had quite a few notifications one night, but I found it would have been an incredible tool to help relieve the anxiety I had a while back when rolling was a brand new concept for my baby.
Even with all safety features on the Cubo Ai Monitor and Sleep Sensor Pad, the only way to truly ensure your baby is safe at night is to have a safe sleep environment. As for location, although room sharing is recommended for the new little ones, bedsharing is cautioned. If you want the safest place for your baby to sleep, it is alone, on their back, and in their crib or bassinet. If you do choose to co-sleep, please read the AAP’s recommendations and do the prep work necessary.
